Allegra Shorto was born the eve of Valentine day in Sao Paulo in 1984. Two years ago, attending a Bertrand Burgalat show with her mother, she sang along to him « Chunky Monkey » a song inspired to her by a Ben & Jerry ice cream flavor, asking him if he was willing to record it. Bertrand was under the charm : the song was perfect, melody and lyrics too (all written by an 11 years old child back then). Therefore Allegra emanates a total lack of fuss. The sensitivity with cool brains make her the perfect antithesis of the manufactured one hit wonder teenager : this antilolita writes her own lyrics and melodies, Bertrand merely finishes the job.

She records a demo at his place, perfoms it on stage at the Nouveau Casino a few days later, just before the whole team (with the help from Toby Dammit, Dana Schechter and Peter Von Poehl) burns the opus in few hours at Studio Gang. Everything is dreamlike, even the "thank you, thank you very much" at the end is inspired to Allegra by the recent screening of a Elvis Presley DVD.

But Allegra went to an all girls boarding school in England in a 11 to 18 girl school which teaches art & music, along with classic subjects: that fits her vocation which doesn’t make studio sessions easy to book.

From time to time, on week-ends and long leaves Allegra is back at home in Paris with her mother Jennifer. So it’s quite gently after this firework start that the four other songs of the EP are being cooked : First and foremost the process has to be light and spontaneous, thou shallt not turn the little monster into an old tricky monkey.

From a David Bowie’s « Best of » Allegra chooses to cover, « The man who sold the world » thus records it at Bertrand’s.

Then she records new songs at her boarding school, she records them on her cell phone before sending to B.B: Girls in straightjackets (still unreleased), Burger & Fries, a juvenile flirt anthem whose ingenuous metaphors would turn her boarding school teachers’ faces red. Finally Tooth Fairy tells about a twinkerbell-like toothfairy turned psychotic and hounded by justice.

Burger & Fries and Tooth Fairy were recorded in one day at Nicolas Dufournet’s Melodium studio, the new Tricatel hideout : B.B at the bass and Keyboards, Hervé Bouétard (drums) and Stéphane Salvi (guitar) from the Dragons are running wild. Louis Bona (15 years) who already plays on stage with Bertrand –and Jean-Claude Vannier- is at the alto and Julien Dury 19 years old (spotted in the french leading rock magazine Rock & Folk classified under « musician looking for band ») at the violin. On Tooth Fairy the Rhythm section is having a great time, Bertrand’s arrangements turning the black & violent perception of the text unperceivable to the hear ; as far as Burger is concerned it’s a wonderful cyanide flavored bubblegum.

The EP will be entitled « Popodoms » only Allegra knows why.

It will be released this summer in digital and 7’ vinyl format, the artist will be on Hollydays then.
